US2 Controller contains an ultrasonic transducer which measures the roll diameter. By knowing the roll diameter, the tension controller knows how much mass is in the roll, and how much torque is required overcome its momentum. This give the control loop better control as it adapts to the roll getting smaller. This controller can be used in an open loop mode, where the roll diameter output can directly drive the brake. As the radius of the roll gets smaller, the signal to the brake increases, so the tension remains theoretically constant.
Two alarm thresholds, which can be programmed, make it possible to keep spool unwinding under control.
This is a very cost effective way to get tension control, but does not respond to other influences of tension.
